We believe that learning to be, learning to learn, and learning to do are more important than learning to know.
When we opened the doors of Acton Academy St. George in August of 2020, it was a powerful realization that our lives had taken "the road less traveled." We started in our home with 12 learners, surrounded by like-minded families who shared our vision. It was a small beginning, but the sense of community was immediate.
One of the most powerful aspects of Acton Academy is watching learners transform. I remember a particular morning when our guide was delayed due to a car accident. A 7-year-old learner volunteered to lead the morning launch. She stood up confidently and painted a vivid picture: "Imagine you're on a road trip with your family. You roll down the window and hold your favorite stuffed animal out so it can feel the wind on its face. Then, you lose your grip, and it goes flying. Do you take a deep breath and give thanks for the time you had with your favorite stuffy, or do you get upset and cry? Why?"
She didn't just lead; she engaged. She asked questions, challenged the answers, and shared lessons learned. A visiting parent was so moved that she was in tears. That moment captured the essence of what Acton is about — helping learners ask the right questions, think critically, and grow in ways that traditional education often overlooks.
A day in our Studios is creativity within constraints: large blocks of time for work and play with clear but broad guardrails, equipping young people to manage their time, set goals, and track progress.
Each day is broken up into work sprints with a shared purpose or goal.
The schedule is flexible to accommodate different learning needs. Students can rearrange work blocks and choose from a variety of work options based on personal goals, passions, and commitments.
Most schools were designed to produce compliant workers. We were designed to raise heroes.
We believe that learning to be, learning to learn, and learning to do are more important than learning to know.
Young heroes celebrate the mastery of tools, skills, and character by earning badges and taking part in public exhibitions.
Our young heroes learn in tightly bound communities with extremely high standards of excellence, where self-management and self-governance are celebrated daily.
From the youngest Sparks to Launchpad learners preparing for the real world, every studio builds on the last.
Extraordinary young leaders spend time doing something they love to do; inspired by world class coaches and experts; having fun with friends as they create lifelong memories.
